The OVLA was created May 17, 1990, as one of three autonomous operating divisions of The Car and Truck Renting and Leasing Association of Ohio Inc. Together they observed their 40th year of service in 1996.

The OVLA serves the needs of more than 200 members and their customers who are involved in the leasing of vehicles to both individuals and businesses. The State of Ohio titled 141,005 cars, vans, and light trucks for lease in 1996.

Members follow a Code of Ethics adopted in 1992 to guide them in their dealings with lessees, other lessors, and suppliers.

The OVLA holds two statewide, membership meetings each year, as well as regional meetings, to keep members informed. Seminars or workshops are held as needed on single issues.

The Association also sponsors a continuing education program leading to the designation, Ohio Certified Lease Consultant, the purpose of which is to train lease salespeople to professionally meet the needs of their customers and employers in an ethical and lawful way.

In addition to continuing education through the OCLC program, The OVLA offers a variety of member services. These include providing information through publications, meetings, and seminars or workshops, member assistance for those requesting it by phone, fax, or email, and by working with government at both the state and federal levels to promote sound public policy.
